Installing a wood stove fireplace insert is one of the difficult tasks for many. Also, it is costly, and if you have never done it before, it can feel dangerous. However, here are some simple steps that you can follow to install your wood stove fireplace insert safely and effectively. So, let’s get started.
Pre-Preparations to Install a Wood Stove Fireplace Insert:
First, you will need to prepare your fireplace where you want to install the wood stove. Examine the place and make sure there is no damage. If there is any damage, then repair that. Also, make sure to check the framing dimensions and venting requirements before starting the process. You can also follow the user manual of the manufacturer to ensure that the place is properly prepared.
Once the preparation is done, you can follow the below steps to install the wood stove shown below.
Make sure the place is flat and ideal for installing the woodstove. Then install an 110V electrical outlet to the rear corner of the fireplace. You can ask an electrician to do it for you if you want.
Now, if there is a gas line in the fireplace, switch off the gas and open the gas line using two pipe wrenches. Then apply pipe dope onto the threads of the gas pipe. While doing this, make sure that the lubricant is projecting into the fireplace. Once this is done, close the line using a ½ inch cap.
In this step, you may need to remove the restraint from the chimney. Also, if there any bricks, then cut them using a hammer and cold chisel.
Now, you can attach a pulling cone to the end of the stainless-steel vent liner. Also, fasten a rope to the pulling cone for easy opening.
Then release the rope down the chimney from the roof. Now, you should have someone for pulling the rope and guide it into the fireplace opening. After that, establish the electrical connections to the side of the fireplace insert.
Now, you can take out the pulling cone from the vent liner and attach an adapter elbow to the end of the vent. Connect the power cord of the insert into the electrical outlet. Then attach the adapter elbow to the top of the fireplace by pulling the vent liner.
Go to the roof and cut the vent liner to the required length. Then cover the top of the flue tile with high-temperature silicone sealant. Ensure that the sealant is extended from the chimney. Now, close the chimney with the chimney cap and attach the surround panel to the front of the fireplace.
That’s all. The installation is completed.
